Papers, sermons (1794-1811, 1840), and diaries (1787-1815) of Rev. Jacob Norton, minister of the Congregational church at Weymouth, Mass. Family correspondence, most heavily annotated with family information, is among Norton and his wife Elizabeth (Cranch); her parents, Mary (Smith) and Richard Cranch; and Norton's children, Elizabeth C. Norton, Richard C. Norton, Lucy A. Norton (later Eames), William S. Norton, and Mary C. Norton (later Mrs. Jacob Howe). Also, courtship letters between Jacob Norton and Elizabeth Cranch and between Jacob Howe and Mary C. Norton; and correspondence between Abigail (Smith) Adams and John Quincy Adams. (Cont'd) Also included are the diaries (1781-1811), commonplace-books, and poetry of Elizabeth C. Norton describing daily life in Weymouth and other Mass. towns; student notebooks of Richard C. Norton while a student at Harvard University, including a geometry notebook illustrating problems with watercolors; his letterbooks/journals (1811-1821) kept while a law student and lawyer in Washington, D.C. while living and studying with his uncle William Cranch and as a member of a militia unit during the War of 1812; a page from the journal of John Q. Adams describing a journey from America to France in 1779; and an inventory of the estate of Richard Cranch.
